The Reading Repairer Series
Uses direct, explicit and sequenced instruction
Students in primary and high schools up to grade 12
With reading ages of approximately seven years, with dyslexia and a range of other learning difficulties, have achieved significant benefit from use of The Reading Repairer. Furthermore, the strategies employed are based on research.
The Reading Repairer is suitable for teaching students one to one or within small groups. However, students need to be treated according to their individual needs as indicated by results from the diagnostic assessment and each individual’s progress from lesson to lesson.
A pre-test is
provided to assess students’
Phonic and structural analysis decoding skills across 13 significant areas. The results of the pre-test indicate which parts of the teaching program are appropriate for each student. Another diagnostic test is included and may be used as a post-test to explicitly indicate the effectiveness of using The Reading Repairer.
The teaching program forms the bulk of this package. Results from the pre-test are used to develop an individual program of learning needs for each student. Each student will require only relevant parts of the teaching program. One student may require three parts of the program; someone else may need the whole 13 areas, while yet another student may need only two sections. The individualisation process that must occur using the pre-test data is detailed in the pre-test section of this package. A truly individualised teaching program such as The Reading Repairer makes maximum use of each student’s lesson time; students are not presented with material of no direct relevance to their learning needs.
